What We’ve Learned in 4 Years of Frugal Friends – EP 207

Listen on Your Favorite Podcast Player

We’re turning 4! We started Frugal Friends Podcast with one mission— to create a community where frugality is embraced by choice, not out of obligation. Four years later and that mission remains the same. Grab your favorite drink and join your frugal friends as we look back and highlight what we’ve learned on frugality, podcasting, and our lovely community.

Creating an intentional life is the foundation to doing well with money.

  • Celebrating. Humans accomplish great things. The wheel, the telephone, coffee makers. And when we accomplish something great, it’s easy to get swept into the next thing without taking time to celebrate what got you here. Celebrating wants you to take some time and acknowledge your accomplishments. If you’re a Frugal Friends listener, you can celebrate our accomplishment with us on April 23rd in St. Petersburg, FL at our 4 Year Anniversary Party. If you’d like to join head to frugalfriendspodcast.com/party for more info!

What We've Learned in 4 Years of Frugal Friends

Community is the key. Frugal Friends community keeps Jill on track. It reminds her that she’s not alone and that we can have friends and still be frugal! Jen also taught her about retirement investing.

Boundaries and Intentional Living. Jill finds herself thinking before purchase – the pause has become more natural. She’s more confident in those awkward money moments (i.e. ‘how are we splitting the bill?’ ‘This restaurant is not in my budget this week could we ____instead?’)

Freedom. It’s a big world out there. Jill found that there are guiding principles but multiple methods for implementing financial wisdom.

Integrated self. This refers to seeing the bigger picture of emotional, relational, and financial health. Jill recognizes that as she cares for all aspects of personhood, it bears positively on her finances, too. There’s SO much we can talk about in this frugal living space such as minimalism, sustainability, and being eco-friendly. Jen, meanwhile, talked the Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs.

FRUGALITY CAN FOLLOW US. It’s not about 1 set stage of life. In the last 5 years, Jill went from house-sitting, to RV life, to purchasing a home in Florida and the tenets of frugality are still relevant for her.

Thanks so Much for Listening!

Thanks so much for listening and leaving kind reviews for the last 4 years.

Changed my life!
This is the podcast I didn’t know I needed. I liked the IDEA of Dave Ramsey, but being that I am human, those ideals were admittedly hard to pull off. I needed the “happy medium” outlook. Now, I’m a work in progress, and I’m loving it! Doesn’t mean labeling myself a failure if I spend money, but surprisingly, this more lax look on life has made me MUCH less likely to splurge unnecessarily. My family is living a more affordable and eco friendly life that’s fueled by common sense and the love for healthy living. Thank you, ladies, for helping to improve the mindset of my entire household. God bless!

Jen and Jill are frugal queens
I’ve been listening to Jen and Jill for over a year and should have posted this review a long time ago. As a grad student on limited income, the golden nuggets of information in this podcast have been life changing over the past year. Also, most of my (real life) frugal friends are men so it is such a breath of fresh air to feel like I have frugal lady friends by listening to this podcast. Bravo ladies, and thank you for all the hard work that goes into making this podcast!

A Long Time Coming...
I've been listening to the Frugal Friends Podcast for over a year now. In that time I've learned myriad tips and tricks to save money and spend intentionally, and I've delved into topics I didn't immediately associate with living frugally, like developing a minimalist capsule wardrobe and regifting with purpose. When I start an episode with these women, I know I'm in capable and kind hands. Every insight is delivered with the compassion only experience can teach you, and I never feel like an idiot when it's clear I've made some huge mistakes. Instead of feeling defeated at the end of a show, I am energized and ready to take on my financial challenges. Thank you, Jen and Jill-- you've changed my life in some of the best ways possible.

You are TRULY my frugal friends.
This podcast and its wide range of topics is SO encouraging. With each episode I feel equipped and empowered to make realistic changes and have seen real results in my bank account over the last year! We even paid cash for this semester of my husband’s graduate program in large part due to things I’ve implemented from this podcast. I love you, Frugal Friends!!!
