Hey there,
Raise your hand 🙋♀️ if you’ve got a kitchen gadget, pair of jeans, electronic or literally any other item sitting in your house unused for over a year?
Same. We always think “someday I’m going to NEED this!”
Clutter often represents all the “what ifs” and “one day’s” while taking up space in our homes, our brains, and our wallets.
Which is why our money move is so important:
This Week’s Money Move!
Declutter an area of your house.
Studies show that cluttered spaces interrupt your sense of control, increasing likeliness to:
-
Make impulsive or emotional purchases
-
Overspend on “status” buys like luxury goods or fancy trips
-
Avoid money stuff altogether like bills and budgeting because it feels overwhelming
This is a big complex issue but you can do one thing this week to begin taking back control.
Start here:
-
Tackle the low-hanging fruit. Begin with items you’re sure you can part with.
-
Limit your choices. Narrow down your focus to one room, or even 1 drawer / cabinet to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
-
Finish what you start. Unfinished tasks create mental clutter. If you’re decluttering books, do all the books in the house. If you’re tackling a room, aim to finish it by the end of the week.
-
Set a deadline. Giving yourself a clear finish line helps you stay motivated and avoid endless “I’ll do it later” loops.
By making decisions like this, you’ll not only declutter your space but also free up mental space for better financial decisions.
