Concerts & Music Festivals Are For the Rich (we’re too poor for music!) – EP 620

Listen on Your Favorite Podcast Player

Concerts used to be fun, enjoyable, and memorable. Now, you have to put your happiness and love for music on credit too? In today’s episode we’re going to look at some of the INSANE prices people are paying to attend concerts and music festivals, why live music has gotten so expensive and what you can do to save live music without needing to be rich or go broke.

Be careful of who you’re listening to and where the money is being funneled to.

NOPE, Your Money Does Not Come and Go

Like many of us, Jen and Jill love live music too. This episode isn’t about stopping yourself from enjoying concerts. It’s about recognizing that live music has become a premium experience that goes far beyond the ticket price. There’s also travel, accommodations, food, and all the extra costs that come with it.

On top of that, fans now have to deal with scams and scalpers who take advantage of people’s excitement to see their favorite artists, often pushing prices far above retail. Jen and Jill make it clear this isn’t hate toward fans, it’s simply a reality check on where our money is really going.

How To Enjoy Music Without Going Broke

Music is still magical. It brings people together and makes life feel bigger. But there’s also a growing conversation around how much money now flows to billionaires and massive entertainment companies instead of the artists and local scenes that keep music alive. Jen and Jill encourage listeners that if you truly love music, one of the best ways to support it is by investing in local musicians, going to local shows, and listening to local radio.

What’s the last concert you’ve been to and how do you find new music?

Jill’s last concert was at a jazz concert at a local listening room and she saw Thrice just last year. She finds new music through friends and musician friends! While the last artist Jen watched were Andrew McMahon Cruise, Judah & The Lion, and Noah Kahn. And she finds music through the help of AI. She tells the prompt in the episode!

Thanks so Much for Listening!

Thanks so much for listening. We love love love reading your kind reviews of our book Buy What You Love Without Going Broke and we especially loved this one from:

✰✰✰✰✰

Buy What You Love Without Going Broke isn’t just about budgeting—it’s about transforming your spending into values-based spending. The authors encourage readers to spend all of their resources well: money, time, physical space, and energy. Instead of focusing on restriction or shame, they guide you toward intentional, values-aligned choices.

What I loved most is the shift from guilt to curiosity. Rather than asking, “Why am I so bad with money?” the book helps you ask, “What is this purchase trying to give me?” That mindset feels so much more freeing and empowering.

There are so many practical tips throughout, but unlike other financial “systems” I’ve tried, this one feels sustainable. It’s less about rigid rules and more about aligning your spending with what truly matters to you.
