Why Write a Book?
Jill shares that writing a book was never her dream, but she supported Jen’s vision. Jen had a long-standing desire to write a traditionally published book, having previously self-published several works. For Jen, this book represents a culmination of her journey in valuing herself and the community they have built over the years. She emphasizes the importance of reframing personal finance to include the joy of spending money, rather than just focusing on saving and investing.
The Writing Process
The writing process was intense and condensed, with Jen and Jill completing the majority of the book in just 3 months. They initially wrote a significant portion but realized it needed to be restructured to better capture the intended vibes and messages. This led to a challenging rewrite, particularly with Chapter 3, which they both found difficult to navigate. They aimed for each chapter to stand alone while also ensuring a cohesive flow throughout the book.
Favorite Chapters
When discussing their favorite chapters, Jill highlights Chapter 9, which focuses on contentment over complacency. She found it particularly resonant during the audiobook recording, as it provided her with a sense of reassurance and reflection. Jen, on the other hand, favors Chapter 10, which she believes will be transformative for readers if they apply its lessons beyond just spending.
Marketing and Promotion
The promotion process has been a mixed experience for both hosts. Jill admits to finding marketing challenging and feels uncomfortable with self-promotion. However, she recognizes the importance of getting the book’s message out to help others. Jen, conversely, has enjoyed the marketing aspect, viewing it as an opportunity to connect with friends and share their message. She believes that the book’s title is compelling enough to attract interest, making the marketing process feel more natural.
If you told your 12 year old self that you wrote a book , what would they think it was about?
Jen likely would have thought it was a Christian nonfiction book, as that was her background at that age. Meanwhile, Jill would have assumed it was a mystery novel or a guide on becoming an actress, as she was interested in drama and theater.

Life Changing!
This year has been financially challenging for me based on changes in my commission-based retail job. It has caused me to feel very helpless and frustrated! I recently was introduced to the podcast through another favorite- Farmhouse on Boone; and I have burning through these episodes ever since! I have learned so much behind the psychology of spending, and I feel so empowered! I have struggled in the past to spend less than I earn, because my income fluctuates month to month. But I am now headed in the right direction!
I do, however, take personal offense whenever they make jabs at the ninja creami and its lack of importance in the kitchen- as it is one of my most prized possessions! But I know now that with values-based spending, that was a gadget well worth it to me! 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks Jen&Jill! Love listening to you guys! 🤗
