Spooky Season Spending Surge
This article by Advantage Solutions presents to us the data that forecasts the majority of the U.S population are leaning to spend more on candy, food, costumes and decorations this year, if not more.
What Jen + Jill have to say:
Jill emphasized that it’s not just inflation alone that we can point our fingers at as to why we are spending more this Halloween but also our desire for more and our degree of consumption that is outpacing inflation. Not only that, but Jen also highlights that the number of people celebrating, participating, and engaging in this year’s Halloween has surpassed pre-pandemic years.
Looking at the statistics, Jill also revealed that Halloween spending has significantly increased. Jen finds it surprising that this increase is specifically high at discount stores before Halloween. She concludes that marketing strategies are driving us to make purchases earlier and, consequently, spend more.
Trick-and-Tips this Halloween
This article by money&mentors provided us with the best ways to save money this halloween.
What Jen + Jill have to say:
Jill reminds us that Halloween costumes are often a one-time use, so she suggests making your own, swapping with friends, and picking up decorations after Halloween for next year. She also recommends teaming up with a neighbor to share candy and sticking to a simpler, more traditional celebration.
Jen, on the other hand, advises going for second hand costumes from places like Facebook Marketplace or skipping costumes altogether. For candy, she suggests limiting what you give out and setting specific times for distribution. When it comes to decorations, Jen says it’s all about two things: reusing what you have or skipping them entirely.
Your Halloween plans this year?
Jill will be getting back from Europe so it won’t be much but she hopes to watch Beetlejuice and Alice & The Vampire Queen. Jen will be going to a local free attraction!
