YOU’RE SLEEPING ON THE LIBRARY: 21 Ways to Use the Library – EP 601

Listen on Your Favorite Podcast Player

Libraries are a whole new universe for how much things you can get and do in it. More than just books, more than just a bunch of research, who knew there could so much more?! Today, Jen and Jill are unlocking all the hidden gems you probably didn’t even know your library had.

Whatever it is, the library got you.

Things You Can Get From the Library

There are things that libraries offer way more than books more than you realize. For instance, you can borrow new releases, classics, audiobooks, and ebooks. Many libraries also lend DVDs and Blu-ray movies, plus digital movies, shows, music, and audiobooks through apps like Libby and Hoopla. There’s also even magazines, newspapers, and video games.

Jen and Jill also says there is this thing called “Library of Things” where you can borrow practical items like seeds, gardening tools, cake pans, museum passes, board games, puzzles, toys, outdoor games, tools, and more. Some libraries also lend kids’ learning kits or edu-kits packed with activities.

Things You Can Do at the Library

Jen and Jill also highlight that libraries are also places to use and experience things for free. You can work in study rooms or meeting rooms, use free WiFi, and print documents. Many libraries host events like baby and new-parent groups, kids’ reading programs, teen clubs and study groups, book clubs for different genres and ages, and hobby clubs for adults.

Some branches offer helpful services like free tax help, free notary services, genealogy research tools, and networking or community meetups. A few libraries even have cafés or cozy hangout spots like The Nook, making them a great place to work, learn, or spend time without spending money.

Most unexpected thing you’ve borrowed from a library?

Jill got a cool robot that draws things for her nieces and Jen got this tree identifying kit like an edukit with a tree identifying guide.
