Think you know what you spend on your kids’ fun? Think again. Jen and Jill go through one listener’s spending list to uncover where the cash is really going and how avoiding a closer look at our habits can actually make us spend more. Catch the full story here or on YouTube!
Letting Kids Be Bored
Jen and Jill emphasize the importance of balancing kids’ exposure to different activities. Without it, there’s a tendency for them to grow into someone who can’t stop moving—or the complete opposite, someone who loves doing nothing. Either way, it shapes them.
That’s why it is important for the kids to have a season of rest. One when they can be bored enough to let their imagination wander and unlock their own creativity.
Bonding Made Simple and Frugal
Bonding is just as crucial for kids as giving them time to explore on their own. Jen’s advice for finding new, low-cost ways to connect with your kids is to sit down and look for patterns in the events that tend to happen again, then map out possible activities from there.
Jill adds that constantly chasing the next fun, creative idea can be mentally exhausting. That’s why keeping a “free resource” list to reference when you’re out of inspiration is a game-changer. She also emphasizes being aware of your spending habits because when you avoid looking at them, the problem can feel bigger and scarier than it really is.
