No more, no less. That way you can start the hobby, see if you like it, and once you go through what you have you can buy more or upgraded materials. Better yet, search for secondhand craft shops and sports stores or borrow from a friends.

2. If you’ve already purchased everything, don’t open what you haven’t used
If you haven’t opened or used something, don’t. That way you can return it and recoup some of your money.
