Let Your Phone Do the Saving for You
Jen and Jill talk about how your phone can quietly save you money in the background while you go about your day. They share how simple tools like Price.com and Honey that alerts price drop can keep an eye on things you want to buy so you never miss a lower price. There’s also a grocery app like Flipp that can tell you which store is cheapest that week, so you’re not guessing or overspending. Debit cards now give automatic cashback, and some credit cards switch your rewards based on where you spend the most without you having to set anything up.
Even buying a used car feels safer now because you can hop on a video call with a mechanic and get instant advice before paying anything. They love how all these tools take the pressure off you to “always be searching” for deals.
Stop Paying Full Price for the Big Stuff
Jen and Jill also touch on all the ways to stop paying full price for the things that usually take the biggest bite out of your budget. For instance, many hospitals offer big discounts based on income, yet most people don’t know they qualify. For rent, you can leverage your rent negotiation tools like rentcast.io to ensure you’re not overpaying. Lastly, consider borrowing items from local “libraries of things” to avoid buying stuff you’ll only use once. All of these swaps keep your lifestyle the same just at a much lower cost.
What’s one way AI has helped you and one way its let you down recently?
AI has been a big help for Jen with breaking down CFP material with simpler explanations but it gave her the 90% wrong explanations for this episode. It also supported Jill through the CFP process, but it wasn’t as reliable when it came to writing the book.

approachable, refreshing, and the millennial humor sprinkled throughout made me laugh. this isn’t an overly complicated finance book and the ideas and action steps are very tangible. it felt like 2 girlies chatting over coffee about their passion for personal finance and frugality and I love that vibe. I appreciate that they touched on spirituality, community, and the environmental impacts of overconsuming too. I’ll definitely be listening to their podcast now!
