Would you pay someone to teach you how to make money? This influencer went viral not for the success of her courses, but for being exposed in the scams she created along the way. Jen and Jill are here not to drag anyone’s character, but to look at how she mixes truth with lies to manipulate people into spending hundreds of dollars on information they could easily get for free.
Sometimes we need guides, but not always.

Why She Seems So Real
Jen and Jill uncover the story of Kayla Sansom, known as @kaylalaughsoutloud on TikTok who claims to be a mystery shopping coach who sells a course on how to make money mystery shopping for $97 per month.
In her videos, Jen and Jill point out how Kayla uses common sales and marketing techniques to gain trust and make sales. They observe that she frames mystery shopping as dangerous without her, blames people for not earning enough, and uses fear to manipulate her audience into believing she’s the solution to their problems. But the truth is, you don’t need a coach to do mystery shopping, and Jen and Jill lay out all the facts on how to do it yourself.
Do’s and Don'ts for Mystery Shopping
Jill says if mystery shopping is of your interest, this is your permission to go ahead and do that without paying somebody to teach you how. From their experience, it’s key to stay organized. Use a timer because time is specific, take pictures, and document everything. Jen also suggests answering every question clearly and thoroughly (not just with one sentence or a simple yes/no), reviewing samples for guidance, and requesting a survey if one isn’t offered.
Jill also touches on the practice of the concept of Shuhari (follow the rules, break the rules, transcend the rules) by finding the one person you can follow until you can develop your own approach and confidently do things on your own.
What’s the sneakiest way an influencer has convinced you to spend?
Jill bought dermaplaning razors because of an influencer showing their ‘simple, low maintenance skincare’, spoiler: she’s never used it ever. While Jen sometimes falls for things she sees from food bloggers.
