She believes that people should know their numbers and empowers them to do so with her educational Carnivore content and engaging N of 1 experiments. She enjoys reading, traveling the world, and devouring ribeyes.
How and Where to Save Money on Meat (Without a Deep Freezer)
Jenny knows most people have a regular freezer, and just making a little space for meat is enough. She recommends using a vacuum sealer to help keep meat fresh longer. And once you figure out your favorite cuts, you’ll know exactly what fits in your freezer and how to stock up smart.
Based in Chicago, she loves shopping at Jewel-Osco, where one meat cut is deeply discounted each week. If you don’t have Jewel nearby, skip Walmart or Target for meat deals and check local stores instead. Costco, especially the Business Center, is also a great option for cheaper, varied cuts if you’re a member.
Affordable Meat Cuts
Jenny says chicken and pork are usually your best bet when you’re looking to save. Think: drumsticks, chicken wings, pork chops, shoulder, and tenderloin especially when they’re on sale. But for overall nutrition, beef actually gives you the most bang for your buck, thanks to all the vitamins and minerals.
Jenny prefers middle-ground cuts that need a bit more cooking but cost less per pound. She likes chuck-eye steak, similar to ribeye but cheaper, and skirt steak for flavor and value. Her one hot take is to skip the Tomahawk because it’s just a ribeye with long bones and not worth the extra cost.
Easy Favorite Meat Recipes
Jenny keeps her meat recipes as simple as possible. For ribeye steak, she sticks to garlic powder and salt, then cooks it on the grill or tosses it in the air fryer. Sirloin is more of an occasional treat, but when she makes it, it’s just as straightforward. Her go-to for chicken wings is tossing them in avocado oil with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and salt before air frying them to perfection.
And for those who want to explore beyond the basics, she’s even written a carnivore diet cookbook with more diverse and elevated recipes.
Zero-Waste Meat Hacks
How much you waste often depends on how you handle leftovers. Breakfast usually helps clear the fridge, and extra meat can easily become a quick casserole with eggs and cheese. For meat-heavy households, leftovers are easy to reheat for the next day. When only bones remain, they’re perfect for making flavorful bone broth to sip or use in soups.
What’s your go-to cut of meat and how do you cook it?
- Jenny: Ribeye steak – garlic powder, salt, pepper
- Jill: Salt cook with butter in cast iron skillet
- Jen: Chick-fil-a chicken sandwich
