Saving $4,000 was never the goal. Getting healthier was. But as Jen changed her daily routines and built healthier habits, she naturally started spending less in some surprising areas. In this episode, Jen and Jill break down the story of how Jen lost 20 pounds, saved $4,000, and the unexpected spending habits that helped her achieve both.

Stick with it while it looks like nothing’s happening. Things are happening. Trust the process.

How She Saved $4,000 Without Trying to Spend Less

Jen takes listeners behind the numbers to share where she didn’t save money and where she was surprised to see major savings. While grocery spending actually increased because her kids were eating more, she saved $1,250 on the gym, $504 on coffee shops, $576 on entertainment, and a whopping $1,717 on shopping.

She breaks down how small lifestyle changes, especially walking more and spending less time on social media, helped reduce her spending without feeling like she was constantly “cutting back.” From making coffee at home to choosing free family activities, Jen shares the unexpected ways her health goals ended up becoming money-saving habits, too.

Trust the Process When You Can’t See the Progress

Jen’s biggest advice is to stick with a change even when the results aren’t obvious yet. Whether you’re working on your weight, paying off debt, building savings, or changing your spending habits, the first few months can feel frustrating because you’re putting in the effort without seeing much movement.

She reminds listeners that progress is often happening beneath the surface before it becomes visible, so don’t give up just because the needle hasn’t moved yet. Keep going, trust the process, and give your efforts enough time to compound into meaningful results.

What lesson from saving money has helped your health?

For Jen, she learned not to trust people on the internet. For Jill, she believes you can get most things you need for free, and when you can’t, you’re much more aware of what you’re willing to spend on.
