You won but at what cost? The rush of “easy wins” is everywhere right now and it’s not just in casinos anymore. It’s in sports, in ads, in your very own phone. In this episode, Jen and Jill unpacks how gambling has become more mainstream, more addictive, and more hidden in everyday life than ever before.
Addiction is a real thing and it can be devastating, and we don’t want to gloss over that. If the limit is not gonna work for you, stick in the places that will be in your best interest.

The Surge of Gambling Ads and Why It Matters
Jen and Jill talk about the sudden surge of gambling ads everywhere. YouTube, social media, and streaming platforms are starting to feel like they’re actively pushing gambling. Even sports content is changing, with games now offering “analytical insights” designed to “help” sports gamblers.
This shift is especially targeting young men and teenagers, which is alarming because as gambling becomes more normalized, it also opens the door for people to feel more comfortable with other forms of gambling and riskier financial behavior.
If You Think You Haven’t Gambled, Think Again
Frugal people rarely think of betting, but Jen points out that gambling today isn’t always obvious, it can show up in things like blind boxes, viral TikTok trends, and cute collectibles. It uses the same random reward mechanics as traditional gambling, just in softer, more aesthetic forms aimed at comfort-driven spending, also known as soft gambling.
And now, unfortunately, gambling companies are targeting women with marketing that focuses more on community and shared experiences rather than competition. Therefore, it’s important to be more vigilant on falling victim to the cheap dopamine hits driven by soft gambling.
Have you ever gambled?
Jill sure has! It was in Las Vegas playing slot machines but she didn’t win. While Jen once did roulette on a cruise ship for a $20 prize.

Got this from the library and decided it was worth purchasing for my step-daughter to help impart financial literacy while she's young.
