It’s one thing to sit week after week and tell you what we’re doing to save money or to watch other personal finance nerds tell you what they’re doing. But what are regular people out there doing to save money in this economy? We found what real people are doing to save money and we think they’re pretty good suggestions that not even finance influencers are talking about.
It’s always going to be easier on some days and harder than other days. The real power comes from the choices on the hard days to do the thing that you want to do.

What Has Been Working For Other People
Jen and Jill spotlight real people, not influencers trying to sell you anything, and how they’re actually making it work in this economy. Their big takeaway is that small actions really do matter, because they are the foundation to the bigger money moves down the road.
They also share simple everyday habits that lower spending without feeling extreme, like gamifying debt payoff, learning to cook (and learning to love it), practicing delayed gratification, and selling clothes before buying new ones.
What You Can Do To Stay In Control
Sometimes, life’s algorithm pushes us toward impulsive decisions, but Jen and Jill remind us that we can create barriers between ourselves and those influences. That can look like unfollowing influencers who push on consumerism or unrealistic lifestyles, and giving yourself a buffer — like keeping the tags on purchases for a week or two so you can return anything you realize you don’t truly want.
They encourage challenging ourselves to notice what’s shaping our choices and experiment how we can do things differently, creatively.
What’s working for you to save money now?
For Jen it’s being contended with herself and body so as to not purchase new clothing. Meanwhile for Jill, the best thing that works for her is eating at home.
