Call it self-roasting or scrolling the hall of shame. But even the most frugal among us slip up sometimes. And today they admit all of it. Jen and Jill went through their shopping histories on Amazon, Facebook, and wherever else they could remember to share their biggest regrets.
Not every failure isn’t inherently bad but there is a cost to finding what you do and don’t like.

- everything I bought on Amazon in 2013. In 2013, I bought just two things on Amazon. A book and black combat boots I wore until they fell apart. Since then, I’ve been tracking over 150 life details in my notes app to avoid pricey subscriptions. That’s why we made the Annual Finance Planner a one-time purchase that organizes everything from insurance perks to car maintenance in one simple spreadsheet. What We Regret Buying
Inspired by a TikTok video, Jen and Jill had their fair share of things they regret buying throughout the years. It includes their impulse buys, things they thought would solve a problem, dupes that ended up failing, even secondhand fails. Like everyone else, they are also sometimes a victim of these because they are not perfect.
But at the end of the day, it’s a constant reminder that if you mold regret into a learning curve and allow yourself to understand your patterns instead of doubting yourself, you’ll be able to recognize when and where to shift your actions next time.
What We Have to Remind Ourselves
Coming from experience, Jen and Jill share a few lessons they’ve picked up from their own moments of regret. First: it’s okay to want things, but save your purchases for what you truly love and value. They also touched on using creativity when solving a problem. And if you really want something, skip the risky “dupe” and get the real thing you’ll thank yourself later.
They also add that just because something is affordable or sustainable doesn’t mean it’s worth your money. And finally, not every fail is a bad thing because there’s a cost to discovering what you do and don’t like.
BEST purchase you’ve made in the last year
Jen’s is a $8 hook installed at the top of my door to keep Atlas from escaping the house. While Jill’s is a stick vacuum named Germy and life is all better now.
Bill of The Week
Thank you Joanne for sharing your bill about your landscaper Alberto – $2500 to fix irrigation!

This book is the perfect jumpstart to a fantastic frugal year. I've been listening to Jen and Jill and the Frugal Friends podcast for years (at least since 2020) and they've been my favorite podcast to find community in values-based spending. However, this release goes deeper into discovering the heart of aligned spending and challenged me to reevaluate my assumptions even as I was reading the book! I already feel more present with my finances and I haven't even started using the tools like the 90-day inventory. Once again, Jen & Jill and their team knock it out of the park when it comes to financial wellbeing that's holistic and relevant to refuse-to-skip-the-latte buyers like me. ORDER NOW, Y'ALL!
